After over 20 years of living and working in Kelowna, I can say first hand that this town has changed quite a bit. It is still an attractive place to call home and has more than it’s share of outdoor activities and amenities, but it is not the farming and retirement community that it was in the past. Today Kelowna homes reflect the lifestyle of those who live here. And since the Okanagan valley is no longer a well-kept secret, we have all seen an influx of those who want ( and can afford to ) live here arrive and stay, some staying for only 2 months during the summer each year. Jane Hoffman and her team, headed by Lora Proskiw, sell the lion’s share of these high-end homes in the California of Canada. Retires, business owners and celebrities alike seek to call the Okanagan home. Convenient for them, the name Jane Hoffman is synonymous with high-end property in Kelowna and the central Okanagan, with an unparalleled selection of high-end homes. Her team constantly ranks within the top few real-estate agents in Canada each year.
Yet, before any of these properties can be sold, they must be conceived, designed and built. It’s been my privilege to have been involved in the design of many of these luxury projects, having been associated for more than a decade with many of the top local designers. A number of these homes have taken more than a few years to complete and are occupied for only a couple months every year by their owners; owners who own several homes around the world. Canadian hockey players also like to call Kelowna home. Dany Heatley, Ryan Getzlaf, Wade Redden, Trevor Linden, Jarome Iginla, Josh Gorges, Blake Comeau, Shea Weber, Scott Hannan, Brett McLean, Tyler Myers and dozens more play here in the summer and entertain friends in their luxury Okanagan homes. 1,000+ square foot home gym’s, beach access and a competitive spirit keep these athletes in top shape during the off season.
The most exiting thing about designing Kelowna homes is learning about how every homeowner is different. Each client has their own dreams and ambitions, and as their home designer I get to learn and understand the everyday routine, needs and desires of those who have taken ownership of their path in life. Designing homes that will someday be listings of Jane Hoffman, Lora Proskiw and others is both a responsibility and an honor. It is my hope that many of the residences that I design will become as iconic as many homes by Carl Scholl Design and others that have already become iconic in our present day.
